Examines theory and empirically-based assessment and intervention models for work with the elderly. It includes the life circumstances of older adults and how that differs from younger adult populations; how ethnicity, gender, social class, and sexual orientation interact with age and create special intervention issues; discussion of ethical and value issues (e.g., client autonomy, rationing of health care); examination of family and community resources in providing care, and interventions with physically or mentally disabled elders and elders in residential settings online. The intended enrollees in the Master of Arts in Gerontology program are mid-career professionals who want to increase their proficiency in this area of specialization or who want to re-specialize, having worked in allied fields online. The required large conducted ensemble must be chosen from the following list, designed to support applied and academic study in each degree plan: Bowed Strings: MUS 500O (Section 1), Arizona Symphony Voice: MUS 500L Arizona Choir Wind/Percussion: MUS 500D, E, O, or R Piano/Keyboard, Harp, Guitar:  MUS 500 or 501 or 502 An audition process designed and administered by the ensemble directors in consultation with the applied faculty and approved by the Director of the FFSOM will determine participation in the appropriate large conducted ensemble pdf. The program offers multidisciplinary course work in gerontology to both undergraduate and graduate students and provides: Preparation for work with older adults as a specialty within a professional area, such as human services, health care, counseling, nutrition, pharmacy, and others Preparation for careers in aging programs (e.g., senior centers, area agencies on aging, long-term care facilities, and others) Community and continuing education in gerontology The Frail Elderly: Problems, Needs, and Community Responses. The emphasis is on the acquisition of practical skills as preparation for continued study, research, teaching, government service, and business careers. The program leads to a Master of Arts degree with a major in Russian How to Live: A Search for Wisdom from Old People (While They Are Still on This Earth). A student should have made demonstrable progress in developing a dissertation proposal before sitting for the qualifying examination. The oral component of the qualifying examination must be formally scheduled by completing the “Recommendation for Qualifying Examination” form. This form, requiring the Director of Graduate Studies approval, must be submitted no later than two weeks before the scheduled examination online.
